Agency Description:
Covenant House Texas (CHT) opened its doors in 1983 to provide shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned youth ages 18 - 20. The mission of Covenant House Texas is to offer homeless and runaway youth a safe haven from the dangers of street life and abuse as well as provide them with the necessary skills, training, and emotional support to choose positive life alternatives and develop into self-sufficient adults.

CHT carries out this mission by offering an array of services including walk-in services, a crisis shelter, free medical care, comprehensive case management, mental health and substance abuse counseling, educational and vocational training, life skills training, a transitional living program, a permanent housing program, spiritual guidance and counseling, street outreach services, a runaway prevention program, and an aftercare program.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops innovative programs for the recruitment and placement of individual, corporate groups, churches and other volunteer organizations.

  • Recruits, schedules, and coordinates family activity groups for Covenant House Texas.

  • Develops, maintains and updates materials for recruitment and retention of volunteers, and prepares volunteer handbooks and information packets for distributions.

  • Orients group volunteers to policies and procedures and ensures compliance.

  • In coordination with programs, develops internship program and oversees placement and follow-up.

  • Works closely with the operations staff to disseminate necessary information regarding family activity groups.

  • Monitors attendance of volunteers and maintains accurate records of volunteer hours worked.

  • Meets with corporate, civic and church volunteer groups and participates in volunteer fairs and conferences to recruit and orient the community on the goals, purpose and need for volunteers at Covenant House Texas.

  • Creates monthly reports based upon the volunteer management information system.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with one or more years of experience supervising volunteers. Ability to work a flexible schedule is required. Must have valid Texas Driver’s License and clean driving record.

LSVA’s mission is to enhance the community of post-9/11 veterans in Houston, Texas by connecting veterans to resources, opportunities, and other veterans.

 

POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUPERVISES: Community Leaders and Volunteers

 

PAY RANGE: $15.00-$20.00/hour

  

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management & Administration

  • Recruit volunteers in support of LSVA’s mission

  • Develop volunteer goals & objectives consistent with the mission & values of the organization

  • Maintain & administer volunteer polices

  • Support all program events with volunteers to ensure that program’s objectives are met

  • Provide information for evaluation of volunteers

  • Ensure volunteers are vetted appropriately for activities assigned

  • Develop and manager Volunteer Recognition Program

 

Fiscal

  • Recommend & manage monthly budget

  • Expense budget as approved and follow internal LSVA financial procedures

 

Personnel

  • Comply with board approved personnel policies

  • Administer and maintain volunteer program

  • Provide for adequate supervision & evaluation of assigned staff & volunteers

  • Ensure proper enrollment & termination procedures for volunteers

  • Oversee any & all disciplinary actions for volunteers in coordination with Supervisor

 

Activities

  • Volunteers

    • Conduct initial and follow on training for developing a pool of regular volunteers

    • Assist Executive Director in building out the training plan, materials, and online tools for new volunteer program

    • Assist Event Program Manager with staffing and operating events with qualified and trained volunteers

    • Maintain volunteers records
       

  • Community Leaders

    • Recruit local volunteers to take on a two-year commitment as a Community Leader in their area

    • On board a cohort of five to six community leaders per geographic area every six months

    • Conduct monthly training sessions online and in person with each cohort
       

  • Ticket Distribution

    • Act as organization’s main point of contact in working with sports teams to solicit, collect, and report ticket distribution

    • Maintain objective distance in distributing tickets evenly across organization with a focus on rewarding volunteers and incentivizing new members to become engaged in the organization

    • Attend most events with members or at least to be on site to distribute tickets at or prior to the event

 

2017 Goals

    • >40 total volunteers in first 90 days

Job Summary

Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers utilized to provide a wide range of services to clients of the Sheltering Arms Senior Services (SASS) Division.  Coordinates and manages the Telephone Reassurance volunteer program.  Leads volunteer involvement functions associated with SASS special events and projects.

 

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides overall management of the Telephone Reassurance program.  Recruits, orients and assigns volunteers to older adults requesting a daily call.  Provides problem-solving support to volunteers and clients and/or referrals to other SASS programs, as needed, to address emerging client needs.  Ensures daily calls are made when assigned volunteers are on vacation or unable to make their calls.

  2. Recruits, enrolls, trains and assigns volunteers for all SASS programs and services as requested by program staff.  Develops materials for volunteer training and recruitment presentations/efforts.  Connects volunteers, clients and professional staff for the best possible outcomes for both clients and volunteers. Completes volunteer background checks. 

  3. Tracks and reports comprehensive information about volunteers, projects completed, clients served and specific volunteer activities.  Provides all necessary data, including demographic data, and program information for annual reports and funding applications submitted to United Way and other funders.

  4. Coordinates the complete volunteer involvement functions associated with SASS fund raising events and other special projects.

  5. Coordinates multiple priorities simultaneously.

  6. Ensures support and recognition of SASS volunteers. 

  7. Monitors and controls purchases related to volunteer activities and projects.

  8. Coordinates Community Education efforts within the Division.  Responds to requests from the community for presentations or division participation at health fairs, etc. Recruits staff to conduct presentations or attend fairs.  Serves as primary liaison between “requestor” and SASS.  Prepares and submits required reports.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university or 5 years of volunteer management experience.  Minimum of 3 years of volunteer management experience.

  • Program management or special events experience, preferably related to older adult

  • Knowledge about the needs of older adult

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic computer skills

  • Strength in multitasking

In addition, the Tangible Gifting Coordinator is responsible for maintaining accurate records and an inventory database, volunteer activities for Tangible Gifting Initiatives and donor recognition.
